Female costumes

Headpieces

I have provided wide variety headpiece styles, so have fun with them and get creative to make each one have a unique look. If you have a baseball cap underneath, you can adjust the size. If you have a large scarf, you can wear a stretchy headband underneath and pin the scarf to it (some have been provided, or you can use your own). Extra-long scarves can be draped so one end hangs down the front and the other is tossed over one shoulder; safety pin the crossover point to your tunic, just don't let the pin show. You can use a fabric or rope tie over the top of the scarf or bobby-pins to hold it in place.

Tunics

Tunic length should be between the mid-calf and ankle. Most have slits on the sides to facilitate movement.

Skirts

Some females have a top and skirt instead of a full-length tunic. Typically, the shirt will be tucked in to help simulate a longer tunic, but it may remain untucked if that is more comfortable. Most skirts have an elastic waistband, making them easily adjustable. To resize, look for the opening on the inside of the waistband. Pull the elastic to size then tie off or pin to the correct size.

Overlays

The overlay always goes over the top of the tunic or top/skirt combo. I have provided wide variety of scarves, overlays, and vests for visual interest. If you have a scarf or fabric drape, it should hang over one shoulder and tuck into your belt/sash. I recommend pinning it from the underside of your tunic shoulder to keep it from sliding off when you move.

Waist Ties

I have provided wide variety of belts, sashes, cords that tie around the waist. I usually recommend tying the ends in a square knot so they stay in place when you are moving around and hang down in the center front or off to one site. Waist ties can be worn over (most common) or under the outer layer - your choice.

Male costumes

Headpieces

I have provided wide variety headpiece styles, so have fun with them and get creative to make each one have a unique look. If you have a baseball cap underneath, you can adjust the size. You can use a fabric or rope tie over the top of a headscarf or use bobby-pins to hold it in place. If a hat/cap doesn't stay on well, attach safety pins to the inside edge on each side and slip a bobby pin through to help secure it to your hair.

Tunics

Tunic measurements are based on the Size charts below. The measurements written in the back neck are the chest and shoulder-to-bottom hem. Tunic length can fall anywhere from just below the knee to down to the ankle. Most have slits on the sides to facilitate movement.

Tops/Pants

Some males have a top and pants instead of a full-length tunic. The tunic-style top should be untucked. Most pants have an elastic waistband, making them easily adjustable. To resize, look for the opening on the inside of the waistband. Pull the elastic to size then tie off or pin to the correct size.

I used the measurements below to determine sizes for my costumes. Please note the costume size is slightly larger than the person's measurement, allowing room for movement.

Fittings

You may take in or let out hems or seams to temporarily adjust the size, but do NOT make any changes that cannot be undone (i.e., cutting). In most cases, safety pins are your best friend!
